I fell in love with crumpets and Nutella on our trip to Australia. So I thought it would be fun to make them at home. I bought some cute little egg rings, found an easy recipe online, and left the dough to rise covered with some plastic wrap on the counter while I went out to do some gardening. When I came back in the house the dough was flowing like lava out of the bowl on to the counter.
I cleaned up the mess, heated up the grilled, sprayed the rings with Pam and filled the rings with dough. Unfortunately, the cute little, piece of crap, egg rings I bought that were suppose to be non-stick stuck, so I had to get a knife and cut them out of the rings.
The dough was too thick and didn’t bubble up, so I added some more milk and in the end abandoned the egg rings and just made crumpet crepes. My sad little crumpets didn’t have that nice texture that I remembered from Australia, but when I spread them with Nutella they were tasty. Well the Nutella was tasty any way. And yes, I did lick the knife.

I love to bake, especially cookies, cakes, and pies.

I'm glad to see you have "real" days like the rest of us! All your photos and recipes seem so perfect… even your "mistakes" look good!
Wow you can't imagine wht it means to me to see these crumpets after so manyyyyyy years . I use to eat them back home !
Barbara, I haven't made crumpets in a little while either because of the sticking issues. Seeing yours, I may try again as well. Maybe all we need is more practice LOL.
Delicious idea about the Nutella!
Oh what a shame :( But they do look lovely. When you mentioned that crumpets were an Australian only thing I was surprised as you guys seen to have everything! :)
Rats! I'm sorry they didn't work out the way you wanted. We all have those days! They LOOK delicious :)
This breakfast looks pretty tasty to me :)
I never tried crumpets! Looks like pancakes! With Nutella sounds delish!
I'm sorry they stuck! But these look great, especially with Nutella on them!
These are so wonderful! I don't think mine would look as pretty!
Oops, it's me again! I wasn't finished. :0)
I wanted to say that this sounds like the time I tried to use a pancake ring for my griddle. It was a mess too!
I still think they look pretty and turned out better than mine would have!
I've never made crumpets although enjoy eating them. I did take a cooking class in which they taught crumpet making and found it interesting. That was one part of the class that I didn't try at home!
When we do these free-form we then call them pikelets:D When you feel like some British crimpets try this recipe that I received from a fellow blogger from "The Bread Bible" it may be what you're looking for:D

Your crumpets look delish even thought they didn't turn out exactly as planned. And with Nutella slathered on top – pretty darn good if you ask me.
yummy Nutella! :-)
I wouldn't mind a couple for a mid morning snack!
I love nutella too! Pity the crumpet recipe didn't turn out as you'd hoped.
Oh, I actually think they look scrumptious! And a smear of nutella must have taken away any disappointment and brought it all together! Wow, now I want to try making crumpets, too.
Oh yum! I had an Australian roomate for a while, so I got very familiar with nutella, so good. I also got very familiar with vegemite, which i did not like as much lol!
We have crumpets from Wolfermans sent to us all the time. Never thought to add Nutella to them. OH YUM, my new breakfast…
I haven't had this in awhile! yum yum!
WOW yum!!!! I love nutella and see those homemade crumpets!!
I'm drooling! Delicious!
Cheers,
Rosa
I totally empathize because I've been there so many times. Baking can be rewarding and frustrating.
